School Year 2010-2011 Session
Monday, August 23, 2010 - Friday, June 3, 2011

Uniforms will be provided to the families with children enrolled in our program to wear on preschool days by Tot Spot at no additional charge. Children are required to wear these uniforms during the times and days that preschool is in session. Children will be involved in a variety of activities designed to enhance their learning. Our preschool program is academic based where the three Rs (Reading, Writing and Arithmetic) are emphasized wihch are important to us - so children are involved in a lot of activities, either teacher-directed or child-initiated. We introduce activities to children in a fun and creative way. Some of the activities will include, a preschool curriculum - such as arts & crafts, sensory and motor development skill building, and of course, the most basic learning tool – PLAY. Children will also be introduced to educational programs like “Your Baby Can Read” to develop their pre-literacy skills, coloring and tracing letters and numbers to develop their writing skills, as well as introduced to different shapes, counting shapes, introduced to one-to-one correlation/correspondence of items to develop their math skills, as well as an assortment of other activities. The television will be used periodically to broadcast educational type programs and during these periods teachers can also transition and setup the next activity or lesson.

Our preschool component is for children from the age of 2-1/2 years to 5 years from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, as noted below:

(Please Note: Activities and materials are provided, selected and available to children on an age appropriate and developmentally appropriate basis. Even though not listed, creative activities will be appropriately provided for infants and toddlers enrolled in the full-day program who are less than 3 years as well, though not included in the preschool program.)

Please note the subtle effect of the curricula: For instance, with respect to the different curricula noted above (i.e. Curriculum III), we continually introduce the preschoolers to basic academic areas but in an enthusiastic and non-pressuring manner, which will enhance their abilities with reading readiness, math, and science, as well as to further develop their social skills to better prepare them for kindergarten.

*Circle Time is a transition period as well as a time when children and teachers socialize about the community. We discuss issues and events such as about the people who live and work in a community. Also, the children socialize about who they live with. We utilize this time to read and discuss stories, or to perform puppet shows and discuss the show before transitioning to either Art and Crafts, Music and Movement, or any other Curricula.
