Feelings:
(Creating paper plate faces with different feelings on them, such as happy, sad, mad, scared, etc.)
Developmental Goals:
This activity is intended for the following:
To become familiar with feelings and emotions
To develop communication skills to enhance language development
Behavioral Objectives:
Achievement of goals is indicated by the following actions in children:
By creating facial expressions
By discussing the expression drawn or created on plates
By learning to express emotional feelings to and/or with others
Materials Needed:
1.Popsicle sticks.
2.Small paper plates
3.Markers or crayons
4.Glue
5.A book about feelings
Procedure:
1.Read a book to children about feelings. If you cannot find a book, then just take 5 minutes to discuss how we have different feelings.
2.Ask the children how they would feel if their favorite doll or toy suddenly broke. Ask them how they feel when they are sick . Ask the children how they feel when they first meet someone new or go somewhere new, like preschool on the first day.
3.After the children have talked for awhile about different feelings, have the children make faces of their feelings on four (4) different paper plates.
4.Have the children glue the popsicle sticks to the bottom for handles.Â
5.Have the children discuss the different faces and also discuss when they have felt that particular feeling.
6.Let the children take the plates home and place with them, or they can keep them at school and play with them together expressing particular feelings.  Â
