ABOUT US:
Tot Spot Daycare and Preschool, Inc. provides childcare and preschool, as well as after and before-school services for families within the Hemet and San Jacinto areas. We are licensed by the State of California to provide child care services, and everyone employed through us must go through a thorough background investigation to provide these services to young children. Although we are a family child care establishment, and not a large high ratio Center or State Preschool, we provide high quality care and only staff teachers who have particular college semester/quarter units in Early Childhood Education. We currently have only less than a handful of child care providers, two of which are a mother and daughter duo at Tot Spot Daycare and Preschool and who are also teachers. In an effort to contribute to the community and local infant/toddler and preschool teachers, we intend to offer other employment opportunities to the general public as we expand.

Ms. Tracy has well over 20 years of experience of caring for children. She has nurtured, cherished, loved, played-with, and taught her own children - as well as her nieces, nephews, friends' and neighbors' children, and her grand children. She home-schooled her eldest son through high school and her children have become responsible members of communities where they attend college and work. Currently, she has an undivided amount of time, attention and devotion to give to the caring, nurturing, building, and strengthening of the developmental skills of children who enroll in Tot Spot Daycare and Preschool. She is a native of California and former student of Cal Poly Pomona. Though her major was not in child development, she has since taken several courses in child development and education at a few accredited colleges in Southern California. She has a history of teaching and tutoring children, and assisting children with homework assignments, and she has successfully passed the CBEST which is a requirement for credentialed K-12 teachers in the State of California (CBEST certification posted in facility).

Ms. Sharmalee is also a native of California and has over 5 years of child care experience. She graduated from one of our traditional, public high schools in Hemet--West Valley High School and then continued-on with her education by first attending Mt. San Jacinto College while working either part-time or full time with caring for children or the elderly in our community. She has also taken several child development and education (i.e. CDE/ECE courses) courses at local, accredited colleges in Southern California and recently received two AA degrees from Mt. San Jacinto College (Fall 2008). She has also taken several college semester units of dance courses to enhance her teaching skills with regards to the dance and movement curriculum offered to pre-K students.

We are currently experimenting with using our education and skills to develop a good, solid, developmentally appropriate infant/toddler program for Tot Spot infants and toddlers (12 months to 35 months). This program is in no way structured like a preschool program and our infants and toddlers learn predominantly through play with plenty of free choice in safe and well planned out environments providing them with opportunities to make decisions, however, they are also introduced to educarer facilitated activities and routines. ["Infants and toddlers are different because they are completely dependent on their caregivers not just for their safety and health, and well-being but for the organization of their life." "...babies need a dance partner or a responsive environment." Todd Risley, Professor Emeritus of Psychology, University of Alaska, Anchorage ]

Your child's developmental abilities, as well as, the care provided by either our staff or volunteers will be greatly enhanced by the time, commitment and attention to detail - given on behalf of each child's individual needs. Both, Ms. Tracy and Ms. Sharmalee, are current in Pediatric First Aid and CPR Certifications, as well as Preventive Health Practices. They will be obtaining credentials from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing in the near future and they are both currently NCLB compliant. Tot Spot intends to keep the child/teacher ratio significantly lower than the public schools' child/teacher ratios.

It is our goal to provide a safe, clean, loving and learning environment for children in every way and everyday. Although animals are very adorable, we do not have any animals or pets on the premises.
